A Solitary Moment

Even in the midst of the hustle of a crowd,
a solitary moment as the mind seeks out
another point in time, another point in space,
to make the entire universe suddenly seem
A little more empty, a little more stark.
A little more cooler, a little more dark.
Yet, in the distance, the minute stars do shine,
and what are they but faraway suns that
burn passionately throughout the night
and warm the surface of fertile worlds
revolving precariously around them.
Not to close to the flame, but not too far.
Just the right distance between too cold and too hot.
Satisfied with the moment, the mind seeks out
the surging warmth of the crowd once more.
